Editor’s note: This article updated Saturday.
Warners, N.Y. — A Vermont driver who fired a gun at another vehicle on the Thruway in Warners told troopers he believed someone was following him, according to the State Police.
The driver was later arrested on gun and drug charges after officers found two guns, “magic mushrooms” and cocaine in his truck, troopers said in a news release Friday.
Christopher J. Flynn, 28, of Bridgewater, Vermont, admitted to authorities he fired the gun from inside his truck while driving on the Thruway, troopers said.
Around 12:10 a.m. Thursday, an unoccupied 2020 Toyota Tacoma truck with Vermont plates was found parked on the east side of the Thruway, troopers said. Bullet holes could be seen, along with a pistol and a revolver on the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office deputies later responded to a report of a suspicious person walking in the area of the Holiday Inn on Winchell Road in the town of Warners, troopers said. The person was identified as Flynn, who they later discovered owned the truck on the Thruway.
Flynn told deputies he thought someone from Vermont was following him and he fired his weapon from his truck at them, troopers said.
A Sig Sauer P365 pistol, with a loaded magazine, and a Taurus revolver loaded, with expended shell casings, were found in the truck, troopers said. Magic mushrooms and cocaine were also found, police said.
Flynn was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center for evaluation.
He was later taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center where he awaits arraignment. His charges include:
As of Saturday morning, Flynn was being held in the jail on $1 million bail bond or $100,000 cash bail, according to county jail records.
